Race Day
Please Note- This information was for the 2011 race and may not reflect policies and procedures for the 2012 race.
PARKING: Please do not park on private property. If you park close to a business that will be open, your car may be towed. The Falmouth Mall has a large lot, but you should park away from the stores. This location is about a mile from the finish area and from the buses to the start. Also try the Mullen-Hall, Town Hall, the public lot near the library, and the Homeport office complex on Gifford Street. Traffic is very heavy around town on race weekend, so allow for extra time.
LIMITED ACCESS TO WOODS HOLE: Access to the start area in Woods Hole will be strictly controlled. Only official vehicles will be allowed to drive to Woods Hole. Registered runners should take the FREE buses provided by the race from the Lawrence Middle School located at 113 Lakeview Ave Falmouth MA 02540. Please do not take private transportation to Woods Hole, as the roads are very congested. Private boats will not be allowed to dock at the MBL docks in Woods Hole and must go to the town dock located next to the aquarium in Woods Hole.
BOAT TO WOODS HOLE: Limited tickets are available on boats from Falmouth to Woods Hole. Times are: 7 AM, 7:30 AM, 8 AM, or 8:15 AM. The tickets are $20 and will be available at the Info booth at Number Pickup.
ROAD CLOSINGS: Check on the time schedule for road closings on race morning: Falmouth Police Department web site.
STARTING ASSIGNMENT: Falmouth uses a wave-start system. The first two waves start at 10 AM (the first wave has red bibs and the second wave has orange). At 10:04 the third wave starts (gray). At 10:10 the fourth wave starts (purple). At 10:15 the fifth wave starts (green). Then at 10:20 the sixth wave starts (light blue). The race uses an electronic timing system. Don't forget to wear your number on the front of your shirt!
RUNNING SAFETY: For your safety and as a courtesy to other runners, please refrain from using headphones or ear buds during the race. Baby strollers, skates and bicycles are prohibited from the course during the race.
Please do NOT run more than two abreast along the course, as you will impede faster runners. Stay to the right side of the road if you need to slow down and walk.
"B-Tag" RACE TIMING BIB INSTRUCTIONS
Your bib is your timing device. Do not fold or bend your number. Bending or folding your number will damage the imbedded timing device, resulting in your start or finish not being recorded. This is a single use device - nothing to return, yours to keep as a race souvenir.

UNREGISTERED RUNNERS: Unofficial runners cause many problems: they crowd and disrupt the start, they infringe on the rights of official runners, they flood the course, and they cause congestion at the finish and on the ball field. Please discourage anyone who plans to run unofficially. We realize many want to run, and we would like to accommodate everyone, but the narrow course, large numbers and congestion forces us to limit our field of runners. We hope you will discourage "crashers."
TOILET FACILITIES: There will be numerous portable toilets where buses load and in the start and finish areas. Be considerate of private property and seek out the portable toilets. There will be a few toilets along the route, around two, two-and-a-half, and three miles.
WATER: Poland Spring drinking water will be available at the start, along the course and beyond the finish line.
FINISH PROCEDURE: There will be a clock at the finish so you will be able to note your time. After you cross the line, continue to move through the finish area. At the end of the finish area you will turn left, where Poland Spring water will be given out. Continue to the ball field, where additional water, Gatorade and food will be served. Do not try to walk back through the finish area. Do not stop until you reach the ball field. There are no post-race showers available and no clothing buses to take your gear from the start to the finish.
MEETING YOUR FAMILY AFTER THE RACE: Meet at the lettered signs along the sloping (west) side of the field and around the basketball court after the race, under the letter that matches your last name. For assistance on the ball field and lost and found, visit our information tent.
RETURNING TO WOODS HOLE: If you need to go back to Woods Hole after the race, take the WHOOSH Trolley from the Falmouth Mall or Main Street. Visit Cape Cod Transit for schedule. Due to heavy traffic, there is no shuttle service from the finish area back to your car at the Lawrence School or other areas. Most parking areas are about one mile from the finish.
RECYCLING: Will be conducted at all events, thanks to Cavossa Disposal and our hard-working team of volunteers. Please help them by depositing your trash and recyclables in the designated containers.
RACE RESULTS: Will be posted the evening of the race on our web site.
